Claims Process

Gennaker judges all claims equally and fairly against policy wordings. We encourage all Insured parties to record the facts of the claim as clearly as possible, and preferably immediately after the incident.

Many parties working in hostile areas compile Situation Reports and implement checks against Standard Operation Procedures. These can be invaluable methodologies to adopt to help ensure that any response or process of mitigation was executed within expected standards and was designed to diminish loss. Any costs associated with such efforts can also be included in the claim.

Gennaker encourages early claim notification, so that any mediation or mitigation processes can start immediately. This can limit costs while putting in checks and balances to mitigate risk in what may be a deteriorating situation.


Loss Specialists

We sometimes employ international loss adjusters or other claims specialists for more complex claims. Loss surveyors may be appointed for cargo and property losses.


Time

Certain complex claims may take time to complete due to final costs being introduced at a late stage. Gennaker takes the view that if the principle of the claim is accepted and hence not excluded or prejudiced by any act or omission on the part of the Insured, a payment on account can be forthcoming in the immediate period following the event.
